Former St Kilda captain Aaron Hamill has conceded he is battling a calf problem and may miss Friday night's first preliminary final against the Sydney Swans at the MCG.

Hamill intimated he may miss the cut-throat clash against the Swans, in the hope of being fit and ready for the following week, should the Saints make it through to the grand final.

"(If I have to miss this Friday night) so be it, but as long as we get there and I'm sure the boys and the match committee will go through that pretty thoroughly during the week," Hamill said on Sportsworld on Sunday.

"There is a lot of innuendo about that (the calf). There are a few boys struggling to come up.

"I'm probably about the mark, but we'll see how we go - it's a tight calf and it's not actually a complete strain, but it's just tightness."

Hamill said teammate Justin Koschitzke was also still in doubt with a quadriceps injury.

"He's probably touch-and-go at the moment," Hamill admitted.

"He had a good running session yesterday (on Saturday) and I think he'll be assessed during the week.

"Realistically, he'll probably have to be right Tuesday, probably no later than Wednesday, I would have thought, to have any chance, but he's coming along OK."

Entering this weekend, Hamill said the club "didn't really mind" who their preliminary final opponent would be, but now that the Swans have advanced to a clash with the Saints, the hard-at-it forward added that Sydney would be a tough opponent.

"They're just never out of it, are they?" Hamill said.

"The key to it is if we really put the pressure on, which we did at Telstra Dome (in round 10), so as most games, that'll be where it's won. I think the more we pressure them, I think the better off we'll be.

"It's pleasing that it's here (in Melbourne) at the MCG and all of our supporters will be there, which will be fantastic for us."

Meanwhile, Hamill's teammate Robert Harvey believes the Saints can go all the way this year and win the club's second ever premiership.

"We think we can. We're playing good footy, but it's a really tough game this week against Sydney and we've got to get through that first."

Sounds like Hamill and Kosi are out, so the Swans won't get a better chance to knock them off.
