Although it is hard to objectively measure it, the talk of the Super Series was how badly prepared the World XI team looked. The best metaphor was "if Shoaib and Lara were horses in the mounting yard, you wouldn't have been prepared to back them on looks".

They also seemed to have been decimated by injuries in the three match one day series. We think there is a correlation between "match-fitness" and lack of injuries, but it is quite hard to measure. Anecdotally, these guys looking out of touch and pulling hamstrings, dropping catches and hurting themselves in the process all seems connected.

There also seems to be a visiting team curse for injuries when coming to Australia. Maybe something to do with the Aussie conditions. We seem to get less injuries on the road than at home, yet visiting teams have regularly been wiped out by injury when they visit Australia. I suppose it doesn't help when there is a bowling overload trying to dismiss the long Australian batting lineups.

Maybe it's the grass.

Why not open up your anecdotal beliefs to the rigors of scientific scrutiny?

What were you thinking of? A tape measure around the girth of Jacques Kallis' posterior and see whether this figure correlates with the number of times he is too slow to make it through for a quick single?
