Interesting and rare one for a cricketer. Apparently Sean Ervine has been playing with an ACL-deficient knee for a few years and has decided that the reco is finally required. Saw Simon Jones do an ACL during the last Ashes when fielding at the Gabba, and he also had a reco. Most other cricketers who have torn their ACLs have done it playing football whilst X-training (e.g. Brad Young in the SCG indoor centre). Full story from www.cricket.com.au:

Ervine to undergo knee reconstruction

Western Australia all rounder Sean Ervine will have a knee reconstruction next week, ruling him out of the 2005-06 season.

The former Zimbabwean Test player injured his knee during while attempting to field off his own bowling in his final match for Hampshire in the English County Championship.

"It's pretty disappointing after having such a successful season at Hampshire," Ervine said.

"I was looking forward to coming back to Perth and pushing hard for a place in the Warriors side but unfortunately it's not to be."

"That said I'm fully committed to working hard throughout my rehabilitation and I'm confident my best cricket is still ahead of me."

Ervine has suffered numerous episodes of instability in his left knee since he initially ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in 1999.

He will have the surgery in Sydney, under the guidance of Hampshire and New South Wales physiotherapist Pat Farhart.
