Would be sad if Lauren J has the dreaded black line as your xray suggests, & sadder if has & being treated conservatively!

Apparently she has an anterior tibial black line but it is very small size. Not sure what treatment she is getting, but you'd imagine a bone stimulator as a minimum.

I don't like to see elite athletes out of their sport unnecessarily, but also recognise practitioners will differ in their opinion on treatment. I believe that both the dreaded black line (tibial) & Jones (5th metatarsal) stress fractures are best treated in the professional & elite athlete by intramedullary fixation as healing is quick & guaranteed. The conservative treatments are slow & not guaranteed. Seems simple to me. Perhaps this view has not been published enough for the message to get through to the practitioners who need to know.

Although the Caps won the WNBL, apparently Lauren Jackson played without being fully fit from her tibial stress fracture. If it hasn't healed completely (perhaps not a surprise) and she plays Comm Games (won't be a surprise either) then Seattle will have kittens when she returns to them with an unhealed DBL, if this is indeed the case.

Looks like this may be a DBL and not be fully healed - bad news!
Shin soreness sidelines Jackson

AUSTRALIA superstar Lauren Jackson, in a worrying sign for the national women's basketball team, has once again been sidelined by shin soreness.
Jackson will consult a specialist after Seattle rested her from the 75-67 away victory over Los Angeles in the Women's National Basketball Association today (AEST).
Storm tried to play down Javkson's absence - she had not missed an WNBA game since September 2004 - but there are concerns for her long-term fitness after she complained of soreness in her left shin.
A hairline fracture was found in her left leg last October, and not only Seattle but also Basketball Australia will be keeping their fingers crossed as they await tomorrow's test results.
Jackson is vital for the Opals' assault on the 2006 world titles in Brazil.
Seattle is trying to ease Jackson through the arduous WNBA season by limiting her playing time, especially after the forward also picked up a knee injury recently.
The gruelling WNBA regular season winds up in September - the month of the world championships.
Jackson, 25, has also signed a three-year deal to play in Korea during the WNBA off-season from 2006.
She is resigned to playing with shin soreness for the rest of her career, and it has not stopped her WNBA dominance.
Jackson is again in line for WNBA All Star honours as Seattle's leading scorer, averaging almost 20 points a game.
So important is she to Seattle's cause that the entire team met to discuss the merits of taking the Australian to today's game at Los Angeles.
"The Storm made a group decision that it would be best for her to remain in Seattle to have the injury evaluated," The Seattle Times quoted team coach Anne Donovan as saying.
Jackson notched 16 points and 12 rebounds in 31 minutes in the Storm's impressive home win against Sacramento yesterday (AEST) - her third double-double of the season.
Donovan admitted it was difficult to rest Jackson because her "competitive nature always motivates her to play through pain".
Jackson's absence couldn't stop Seattle's winning ways.
Betty Lennox stepped up with 27 points to snap Los Angeles' eight-game winning streak.
In the other WNBA clash, Australia's Belinda Snell nabbed four points off the bench in Phoenix's 81-78 win over Minnesota.
Phoenix will welcome back Opals forward Penny Taylor against Washington on Monday (AEST).
Taylor - who averaged 13 points for Phoenix last season - will play her first WNBA game of the season after spending time in Australia following her Italian league stint.
Taylor recently led Famila Schio to the Italian league title.
