In contrast to the AFL, the NRL teams name their players early in the week (which is beneficial for getting the Big League out on Thursday, but there are no disincentives for naming the wrong teams. Some teams offend more than others, with the biggest 'offence' being to bring a player back from injury that no one knew was ready to resume.
In the AFL, a team must list 3 emergencies with all replacements to come from this list. The NRL couldn't duplicate this policy as there needs to be a potential replacement for each of the different positions.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to stop teams from deliberately concealing the true team in the NRL, whilst still allowing for the fact that late changes may still occasionally be needed for fitness tests?
