Three Australian doctors who have been pioneers for sports medicine in the UK over the last couple of years, at puresportsmedicine in London, will all be home by the middle of next year. David Hughes has already come back, John Best will be home for Christmas, and Chris Bradshaw is waiting for the season to finish with his Premier League team Fulham.
The three sports physicians were all attracted to the prospect of time overseas, good money in the private system in London, and the chance to help set up sports medicine as a specialty in the UK. They were there when the latter happened, as sports medicine has now been recognised by the UK (and most of the major countries around the world, with the exception of Australia).
It is a tribute to the Aussie weather and the pull of home (and maybe Aussie wives and families) that they are all home/coming home, even though they leave the UK as specialists and come back to Australia as doctors who practise in an area in which our government has determined that you can't specialise in, namely sports medicine.
