i have a relatively thick neck and have been doing judo on and off for 5 years, never been choked out. earlier this month after wrestling/rolling/randori with several opponents, i realised i had a really sore/swollen throat around the adams apple area. i thought, no worries it should go away the next day. unfortunately the pain was worse when i woke up and it has continued to be as painful after 14 days inclusive. the feeling is like having tonsilitis when i swallow, sneeze, eat, drink. apart from that i am able to function with my daily life, however any form of exercise causes a lot of discomfort.

i have seen 2 g.p.s who couldnt really diagnose me, and am due to see a sports physio tomorrow

has anyone had this experience before? whats the expected recovery time? thanx in advance

I would first establish whether the pain is coming from a superficial structure i.e. can you touch the area of pain, or a deeper structure below all the tissue of the neck. Does it hurt to contract/move the muscle of the neck? Any particular movement?
