does anyone have any experience with recurrent patellar dislocators +/- stabilisation procedures returning to professional sport??
i have a 16 year old soccer player who has just had a reconstruction of his medial patellarfemoral ligament, he is currently being considered for a professional contract but im unsure of the likelyhood of him being able to return to professional sport. He only apparent predisposition to patella instability is slight patella alta.

A few professional AFL players in Australia have successfully returned to elite level after patellar stabilisation, although it takes 6 months. Daryn Cresswell played for the Swans for 7 seasons after bilateral patellar stabilisations and Ashley McIntosh may have been about the same for the West Coast Eagles. Unless there is horrible patellofemoral articular damage then a player should be able to return to elite level. The other thing is that they get permanent 10% quads wasting, so the only thing in a soccer player might be kicking power.
