Was wondering if any of you out there have ever had Prolotherapy and if so can you tell me how you went?
Also, can you recommend any practioners of the practice in the Sydney area?
Thanks

I am a little baised as I am a practitioner and teacher of prolotherapy, but I also have prolotherapy myself. I'm not an athlete (only going to the gym) but my brother is and he says he doesn't know how sportspeople manage without a sister to do prolotherapy whenever they want it! But seriously, I have had chronic low back pain from lifting furniture 18yrs ago, neck pain from a car accident age 10 and my knees are starting to be a tiny bit sore (age 58). But I have no problems with the back and am flexible enough to touch toes easily and I stupidly lift heavy rocks for my garden, my neck rarely bothers me and my knees are not there ie I don't even know I have knees, as a result of the prolotherapy I have had. I don't get results as good as that on everyone I treat but mostly there is a tremendous improvement. In young fit people who are not too damaged by cortisone shots or surgery it is nearly always possible to get full function. Middle aged folk may need "top-ups" from time to time to stay pain free. People who want a list of practitioners in their area can email me at taylorme@internode.on.net but please be brief and give me your area accurately. Dr Margaret Taylor, Adelaide

Best thing about prolotherapy is that it very safe and has some rational basis for helping. Not a huge amount of good quality scientific evidence that it helps for many injuries that it is used for, but back pain would be where most of the evidence has been produced. In the "try it and see if it works for you" basket IMO at the moment.

I have had Prolo for chronic and longstanding lower back pain caused by distintergration of a disc.
It took about ten visits over a few months at the end of which my back is pain free finally after some four decades.
I am willing to stand as a reference for Prolotherapy,as my experience has been one of total satisfaction.
It is now going on six months since my last treatment and there is no sign of any problem on the distant horizon. I live in the Hunter Valley, but I beleive that there is a practicioner at Bondi Junction

I have done a lot of damage to my lower back due to working as a landscaper for many years.
I had Prolotherapy treatment done in Los Angeles California in 2002. I believe I had 6 treatments done and I cannot begin to describe the relief of pain , and the improvement in my quality of life. Since moving back to Australia I have tried one treatment here, and I was not very impressed. I live between Geelong and Ballarat and would love to find a good Dr in Prolotherapy within reasonable driving distance.

I have had Prolotherapy for my Chronic Lower Back pain (10 year old which has developed further to create sciatica in my left leg). I have read alot about it and heard that it's between 80 - 90 % of a pain reliever!!! Unfortunately I was not one of those fortunate enough to recieve any pain relief. But as was said before in this thread that the best thing about it is that it's one of the safest things you can have and that is why I tried it.
I went for 5 sessions. Be prepared for the pain of the injections, however they do ease after a few!
I saw Dr. Michael Oei - his number is 9969 2198. I can recomend him based on personality! that's all as I didn't get much relief from prolotherapy.
Cheers

Re: your enquiry about Prolotherapy. I am an Art lecturer from QLD. I have not actually has this treatment myself, however one of my senior citizen (88 years) art students has, and has advised me, for my wife's benefit. My wife suffers from Scholiosis. My student was treated successfully with Prolotherapy injections for shoulder and elbow problems about 8 years back by Dr. Margaret Taylor of S.A. She now has total mobility of both shoulder and elbow joints with minimal discomfort. I believe that there is about 80% success rate overall.
My recent web search (similar to yours) turned up a Dr. Ricardo Al Khouri of Cowra N.S.W. if that is any help.
His address is Kendall Street Medical Associates, 165 Kendall Street, Cowra, NSW 2794. PH: 02 6341 1400
Oh, and he bulk bills as well.
Good luck with your search.
Regards Paul
