View Full Version : Intermittent Back Pain

Since December I've been experiencing back pain roughly in the thoracic region on my left side. I go to gym regularly but haven't been injured and I don't remember doing anything to bring it on.
The pain comes on flexion combined with rotation to the right. It's a sharp stabbing pain I can't put my finger on.
I originally felt it very close to the spine but it's shifted more laterally and seems to be deep.
When I'm lying in bed and move a certain way it's painful and sometimes when I cough or sneeze I feel it too.
Generally I don't feel it. It's only when I mobilize/flex my thoracic with rotation.

I stopped gym for 3 weeks to try and let things settle down but it hasn't gone away.
I've also had massage which seems to only result in short term relief.

I saw a chiropractor (who I wasn't overly impressed with) and I have to go back this week
to get the results of the xrays he took.

If I do any spinal twist to the left side e.g lying on my back, lowering my knees to the left, it's *very* painful. To the right, there's nothing.

My feeling is that it's a nerve impingment rather than a musclular problem but I'm not sure.

Can anyone offer any ideas or suggestions I can look into?

Thank you.

By the description of your pain the chiro should be able to adjust the rib head and the problem should be vastly improved. That is what Iwould do, the XRays would exclude path:)
