View Full Version : cricket injury
after playing cricket me left shin is in agony.
I think it is caused by the impact when bowling.
The bone feels lumpy and sore.
Any ideas what it could be?

Bowlers can get any or all of the 3 common injuries to the shin: stress fractures, compartment syndrome or shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome).
Stress fractures will usually build up over time and be tender on the bone in one particular spot. Compartment syndrome is pain that builds up over time and gets worse the longer you stay on it, but settles quickly with rest. It isn't a classic cricket injury and sounds like you don't have it because it won't give a lump. Shin splints are a lesser (soft tissue) overuse version of stress fractures, similar to tendinitis. Orthotics can help if you have flat feet.
If the pain persists, see someone who can assess (perhaps) scan to rule out a stress fracture and/or correct your foot mechanics.
