Goodness what a nightmare! I'm 4 weeks into postsurgery, just had the rather large and heavy plaster of paris removed after 3 weeks. Now I'm in a synthetic cast for another 4 weeks. Seems interesting that most people go into a boot but I've been told I have to wear shoes with about an inch thick sole. Not a good age to be doing this, 40 years of age, guess I just played my last game of netball!

Hi Cheryl, At 40 years of age I was rated as being super fit. Now I am almost 63 years old and raptured my achilles tendon about eighteen days ago whilst playing tennis. I had surgery the following day and hopefully will have the caste removed in about one month.
What amazes me is how easily the tendon raptured. I just took a simple step backwards and felt a blow on the back of the leg and down I went. Hopefully I can get back to normal life as soon as possible. I would be interested in hearing about your progress.

Hi there,
I'm almost into my 7th week. Had a walking cast put on after 3 weeks, this comes off this Friday. Will be good to be rid of the crutches. I'm just in normal shoes with an inch thick heel after this comes off. Not too sure about physio, will have to find out this week. I'm wondering also when I'll be able to drive as it is my right foot.
I wish you a speedy recovery,
Cheers
Cheryl
PS I'm also near Hobart

(51st Day)
Cast is off! 2nd day and getting around quite gingerly, but better than yesterday. I'm putting more weight on the bad leg but can't seem to get the walking motion back. Think I may need to get a good physio regardless of what my Specialist says. I know it is a slow process but I'm not sure how hard to push myself and I'm a bit of a sook.
Well I'm off to practise walking on 1 crutch, don't like my chances!
Take care all,
Chezza

Hi,

Without taking away from this Australian forum, I was advised to check a specific English online forum and I was staggered at the size and following of the forum which in main deals with achilles tendon ruptures.

It is worth checking out!

http://www.marfell.me.uk/ and follow the links.

In the mean time I am counting down the days until the cast comes off hopefully.
