Hiya,
Tim,
I am very sorry to hear you are suffering from scapholunate dissociation in both wrists.

I sadly suffered from Mid Carpal Instability (MCI) in both my left hand & left wrist after an accident/injury while at work on: 13-10-2002 & I have 2 wrist operations, 1 was called an Wrist Arthorscopy on: 29-10-2003 to make a clearer diagnosis & to see what was causing the wrist clunk/snap & possible which ligaments/carpal bones were loose, damaged, streched, ect.

My 2nd wrist operation was on: 17-03-2004 one Ligament Tightening Operation on: 17-03-2004 with the use of one K-Wirer through the Triquetral Bone & The Capitate Carpal Bones & Hard cast for 3 months, sadly the Ligament Tightening Wrist Operation Was Completely Unsuccessful.

I was due an limited wrist fusion operation on: February 2005, but this was moved to: 19-10-2005 due to the surgeon being on holiday, & then we seeked an second opinion/view on: 24-10-2005 to confirm a limited wrist fusion was correct & it was confirmed to be correct, but sadly I started to suffer from: RSD/CRPS & while both my left hand & left wrist is tender, red, red-patches, ect, with socres/wounds, flakey skin, I am no longer aloud any further wrist operations until both my left hand & left wrist clears up from the RSD/CRPS.

You could have any Ligament Tightening Wrist Operation with K-wirers, but mostly unsuccessful.

Limited & Full wrist Fusions have a good chance of success, but prevent movement/bending, & there's no grautne it will stop the pain, discomfort, ect.

Visit my online msn support group, it has all the information you & your surgeon needs.

If you E-mail me I can send you loads of information as well.

Hiya,
Tim you should be aked to be reffered to an: Orthopaedic & Trauma Hand, Wrist, & Upper-Limb Consultant Surgeon.

Whom will be able to advice, treat, & diagnosis the correct wrist instability pattern/s.

I would get a wrist splint with an Palmar metal plate, & wear it 24-7, ecept for baths, showers, washing up & twice a day plus Physiotherpay Excerises that you've been showen by your Physiotherapist.

Even wear the wrist splint/s at nighttime/while sleeping.

Also carry out RICE, while at the same time trying to use the hand/wrist to the best of your ability, without causing pain, discomfort, clunk/snap motions/movements.

Advoid an Clunking/Snapping Motion/Movements where humanly possible in every day to day normal day to day activities. (It's not always possible, with Wrist Instability sadly)

Your Probabaly need a Wrist Arthorscopy Operation for a Diagnosis, as most Ligament Damage will not show up on plan X-rays in the early stages of Carpal Instability or MRI-Scans, only after years will Carpal Instability show up on X-rays, unless under certain loads or stress tests.
