Two years ago I had an accident and recently I saw a new Dr. and his diagnoses was 2 acetabular labrum tears. My first surgery is tomarrow and the procedure terrifies me. What is in store for me after surgery.

Be careful, I had the surgery in January, I now have worse pain and limp. I wanted to postpone hip replacement but may now be headed there anyway. I can talk with you on the phone today if you like? If you are having these concerns, you should postpone your surgery until you have ALL the facts!

I just learned from an orthopedist that does hip replacement, that he has had to do surgery many times for failed labral tear repair/debridement. If you have any osteoarthritis in the affected hip, the failure rate is about 79%....and many times you cannot know how much joint damage there is just on MRI. The surgery is hard, long demanding recovery (they found arthritis in the hip that they did not acknowledge on MRI arthrogram.) 21% is not very good odds in my opinion, now that I had the surgery.
