I have recently had a groin tenopothy? (1 week ago, where they cut the adductor Longus Tendon) I have been informed by the surgeon that i can be back playing sport within 3 weeks post surgery given correct rehab?
What are some things i can do to help rehab? and is 3 weeks realistic?

3 weeks is just about a world record, and it would presume that you weren't that bad beforehand. It is fair to say that the surgical scar is healed in 3 weeks, but if you had underlying osteitis pubis this can take a good deal longer.
It is the sort of operation that when you feel ready you can go for it, but don't expect it to necessarily be a short time frame. The highest paid professionals are out from 4-8 after this surgery and you probably will be too.

Try some swimming and cycling and working out in the gym. I haven't heard of this injury before so I am not an expert but I think you should try what I reccomended. Good luck.

I have had that operation too mate in sydney, I was able to get into activity about 12 weeks. It was surgically a sucess. However my rehab probalay wasnt done as good as it could have been (due to program rehab/not wanting to hurt myself again) The OP seems to be coming back at the moment, after straining my groin muscle playing footy for a month or so ago. After having the op a fortnight b4 xmas last year, I missed all preseason and the first 6 games, then played 3 or so games, then strained groin training and its been about 5 or so weeks and the strain still seems to be there. I need to work on my core better(its got worse since i though operation would just fix it all) and strengthen the cut tendons or something. I am a lot better off however having had the operation.
At the minute I have a really good massage therapist in Melbourne that has got me going after my operation, however he is 6 hrs away and its hard to see him regualry ect with $$$ and time constraints. His name is Gary Miritis and I would highly reccomed him, in Glen Waverly - Pauly goes there too, he is very good, and has worked with elite athletes ect. PM me if you want moer info on him guys. I wish I had of seen him before my operation, because he is that good. He hurts but i works!
At the minute I am hoping to get inot see an AFL specialist doctor to get a rehab program to follow specific to my needs becuase I feel that I am not that far away, even though its been two years with OP. If anyone has seen Bruce Reid the Essendon doc, please PM me and tell me about his knoweledge ect on OP. He has worked with some players at bombers who seem to have got over their op ect, or the carlton rehab dude.
Anyways, Cheers
hey mel
can you pls tell me the name of the guy that did the op on you, was it garvey by any chance? sounds like you have managed to get some improvement, I am interested in seeing the guy that does your massage, how many sessions do you think you need to get relief from OP?
thanks hey, vitt

Hey Vitt,
My suregon was Neil Halpin, he is great and alot of elite sports people go to him. Hes based in Newcastle now, but operates out of a private sydney hospital, Holroyd.Think hes done like 3000 operations for the problem, however he does a few tests to see if you are in need of the operation. I had both groins done. His follow up is first class and he still rings me often. If I hadnt have tried to get straight back into sports, i'd have no pains probalay at all, so that says it all I guess, but hey i did it to get back to sports.
With Gary, I have been 2 times, but he got me up and playing after one visit. He goes hard, harder than any massage then i have ever had, but is very good and has got great results too, works with a lot of AFL players atm. As I said Pauly goes to him too, and i am sure he cant speak highly enough of the guy. Great fellow.
hey mel thanks, I heard that both garvey and halpin are the top for this kind of operation...shame that Gary is down in melbourne, might be worht seeing him first and see if he can manage to cure it without need of surgery at all.....otherwise go for the op....
glad you have had such at a positive results, it's hard to stay put, but maybe a little care will go a long way....thanks hey, will come up with a plan soon, cheers V

Mate
I have done it all, be it Pat, heaps of docs or physios, Gary ect.
Garry and Pat have done the best work so far, and the opertion did help no end, but as Garry has said, my problems at the moment are from my operation healing time not the OP, os go figure! They have both worked, but i wsh i had of seen gary first before Pauly told me about him!!! Then who knows, but Gary is great, Pat is too and Neil Halpin is a class act, however as you know the search for answers is something all of us are going to do until we get better. I am better, but patience and rehab is my obstacle now.
I want to get bcak inot sports and run around ect, but at the moment, i am not there ...yet.
Sorry about not being on for support of late, I have been all over the shop, and just remembered the other day, my PMs were full. Good luck.
hey mel
do you mean that the operation didnt work you? sorry didnt get the meaning of what ya been writing......
sure me too I would try gary and pat first....it is not an easy one hey.....but ya got to stay up and cheery, later V

Vitt, I would say on average it takes about 2 - 4 sessions with Garry. I could go on and on about how garry is, but I would be just repeating myself. Let me just say that if it wasnt for him I doubt I would be still alive. Because I went through so much depression not knowing what my pain was for 16 months. I couldnt have sex for a year due to the pain. For the first time in a long time I am pain free, I just need to build on my strength. If Garry is to busy, you can even try Darren, great bloke too !
hey paulie
thanks so much, I have to say that I have been sharing the same feeling of depression too, it;s just been so long and after trying so many things i cannot seem to win this one....
but ya right I intend to try gary, he sounds really unreal, how far from melbourne is it? how long do you have to wait between sessions? and after how many sessions can you tell if it's working?
I am thinking of staying in that area while I get the treatment, so hopefully will be able to rent something.....
sorry so many questions, I would definetely like to try the man himself cos I am a pretty bad case too, strengh isnt too hard to get back once the pain is gone it will be a pleasure to get into some movement
thank you so much.
I forgot.....
do you think that gary could save you from surgery even.....how good would that be!!!!!!!!!!!!
cheers vitt

His about 20 mins from central melbourne.
Usually I space out my treatments, a week apart because I am still sore.
You have to go for a run and see how you feel for yourself.
The best thing to do, call him up yourself and speak to him, I will give you his website http://www.miritismassage.com/
hey guys thanks, will get in touch with him, does he do mayfascial massage?! it doesnt matter anyway as long as it works...I hope you mean a run in terms of trying him out, cos there is no way that I could possibly run at anytime too soon!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paulie, like you I have been bed and house ridden for the past 6 months and more and my legs look like someone from the 3rd world country or something.......it is just that mixture of pain, depression and being scared of using the body again.....
glad you guys have been feeling better......mel dont worry about the surgery now, is done!!!!! it's hard to say whether you would have been able to get better without it.....keep up the good work

Vitt: I did mean run. Believe me slow steps my friend. If I had to share my story again, I would start crying. I got a blood clot in my left leg and lungs from lying in bed. That was just double the pain. I was lucky not to die or become spastic had the clot got to my brain. I feel your pain, thats why I do my best for anyone with this pain. I started jogging about 2 months ago and slowly built it up. Currently I am running 2.5km at 90% effort. I am probably a month away from sprinting, skipping, zig zags etc ....
It may take a few sessions but you will see for yourself ....
wow paulie that sounds terrible, you should be proud of yourself for having done so well. I really hope to have a good success too....
can you tell me exactly what you had? and why area was interested pls?
thanks hey v
sorry paulie mean to say did you osteitis pubis or adductor tendinopathy or both, I am learning that not all the symptoms are the same here....vitt

Well i am back running and playing sport again since my op last August however i get really bad DOMS now in my groin and a constant ache for days after a big game. I also suffer really bad pains in my adominals and lower stomach when i start to fatigue. Has this got something to do with the operation and some inate weakness?
I have never suffered painful groins until this injury? is it going to be something for life now? or does it gradually subside back to normal??

wellerm,
did your surgeon say it was ok to be doing rehab in your third week out? If so, i'm surprised you are doin side glut raises so early... they stretch the groin substancially...
you have said you have a good core but it can never be too good, short bridges and pelvis tilts are the way to go. A deep massage as well would be recommendable to help get rid of any scar tissue...
I'm seeing Garry Miritis in two weeks time and I'm really excited! :)
Can anyone recommend things I avoid beforehand?
I'm also plannin to give up drinkin and $ex with the gf for two months...
im sick of bloody sacrifice but i want my life back!
vitt and paulie, i suffered from depression too and it never really leaves you unless you see someone about it. That is what i plan to do
all the best to everyone,
Beams
