The Brisbane Broncos hope that Gorden Tallis can find a way to go around again in 2005, and perhaps the Maroons also a secretly hoping that he can follow in the footsteps of Langer and Fittler by coming out of State of Origin retirement for an encore. However, he is battling a condition known as spinal canal stenosis, where chronic degenerative changes in the neck cause a narrowing of the passage around the spinal cord. This injury was the cause of Wayne Carey retiring at the mid-season of his last year with the Crows. It is also the condition that had Chris Grant of the Western Bulldogs stood down in an insurance scare a couple of years ago during the Wizard Cup, and the one which forced current St-George coach Nathan Brown into early retirement.
