The Wallabies won the match against the combined Pacific Islands side in Adelaide but suffered a fairly horrific injury toll out of the game. Joe Roff will be missing for a month after requiring arthroscopic knee surgery whilst George Gregan has a fairly severe A/C joint injury and is in doubt for the Tri-Nations opener. Gregan has the type of injury that could theoretically be covered up by local anaesthetic use, although this procedure is very controversial in rugby union as it is official illegal, in contrast to the AFL and NRL. Stirling Mortlock and Clyde Rathbone were also taken from the field injured with traumatic facial injuries but both are expected to be fit for Tri-Nations opener against the Kiwis.
