I thought i would share my story as lenght of time from surgery has been quick compared to other posts - point form as it is easier to read.

I am a 33 yo male and i ruptured my achilles on 8/07/06 playing soccer.
Diagnosed on the 9/07/06 by a registrar at St.George Hospital in Sydney.
Ultrasound was performed the 10/07/06 to determine the extent of the tear.
Surgery was performed by Dr Rob Molnar on 11/07/06 at St.George hospital.
Placed in a half cast with toes pointed for a period of 2 weeks, and crutched were used.
very painfull at first but this eased off with healing etc.
i moved my foot in the half cast as much a possible to eliminate stiffness.
Half cast was removed at 2 weeks by Dr Molnar and i was placed in a cam boot with NO weight bearing at all.
Crutches were still used.
drove my wife and kids mad.
no driving.
no Bulldogs matches.
Instructions from the doctor when wearing the boot were to take off during the day and strecht the achilles.
This was done at every opportunity i had, ie ankle movements up and down ,, around in cirlces etc.
Physiotherapy was started at this time ie 2 weeks post op.
On 16/08/06 i had my follow up doctors appoinment.
Doctor extremely happy with progress and advised i can start weight baring
time to ditch the crutches. Amazing as it is only 5 1/2 weeks post op.
22/08/06 - today - physiotherapist begins strenghtning programme.
