View Full Version : The front-on action is unsafe?

What!!!???? Unsafe?...... well that is the view that some people are beginning to take with the front on action.

Counter rotation values > 30 degrees increases the risk of stress fractures of the back significantly.

And while there is no notable research available yet (hint hint) there is a trend that has become apparent to coaches dealing with the counter rotations issue, with the aid of Silicon coach.

1. From back foot impact ALL bowlers counter rotate to some degree
(3-60+ degrees.)

2. With most bowlers there SEEMS to be a similar preferred angle that they like to rotate to.

3. Starting from 0 degrees if you are a front on bowler means that to get to this common preferred angle requires more rotation and thus a greater risk of injury.

Short and sweet...that is basically the only way I could explain the argument, I hope it makes sense.

I look forward to your feedback.

Cheers
Dan

Hi Danny,

I don't know if you intended me to reply (or if this is continuing our previous coversation). What a new edge to an old debate! What (if any) is the evident used to support? Is this opinion growing in cricketing circles? I am not familiar with Silicon coach... what is it?

Dan,

Sounds like you have some up to date information from the cricket bowling research study in Australia.

What you have said is a huge call, as coaches are taught that front on action is the most safe.

Perhaps it is better to re-phrase. I'm sure a pure front-on action is very safe, maybe what you mean is that coaching bowlers who don't have a natural front-on action to bowl front-on may lead to a mixed (unsafe) action with high counter-rotation.
