I'd like to know the name of this type of therapy and who offers it in Sydney??

The therapist lights a candle and puts it on the skin, immediately places a small glass (ie shotglass) over it. The candle goes out and because the glass is tight against the skin, the oxygen is sucked out of your skin.

The therapist then moves the glass down the length of the muscle/ligament. THe pressure stays and the fluids under the skin move with the motion.

For example: if there is a knot in the muscle that is causing pain and strain, that is where the therapist places the glass, and moves the knot down the length of the muscle until it goes away. When I say 'goes away' I literally mean that the problem goes away. I know because I have had this treatment. Done correctly, it can heal a ligament/muscle strain immediately, then it just needs a bit of rest. No more going to the physio for weekly costly treatments. Anyway, back to my initial question? anyone??

a friend of a friend did it for me, but he's kinda inaccessible and I would also prefer to liaise with someone who actually speaks English.

after a bit of research I've seen the word cupping treatment although it must have a specific name? also came across lots of science experiments who test the theory of vacuum...that's really what it is, vacuum!

Hi Volador,

Ask around for a good practitioners of acupuncture and/or Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in your area. They use these techniques. (I've had cupping before - slightly different to the way you described. Worked for me. 'Helped get rid of some bursitis that I had in my shoulder. Warning: if you have it in summer time and then go and sit on the beach be prepared for some strange looks! You'll have lots of circular bruises!)

Good luck!

Hi, I think this treatment has been devised from an ancient Chinese therapy called cupping. Cupping is a technique especially useful in the treatment of blocked chi or blood stagnation. It is often used as an alternative to accupuncture.Traditionaly a bamboo cup and burning taper would be used. The taper would be held burning inside the cup before being placed on the body. The taper flame exhausts the oxygen in the cup and creates a vacuum, this anchors the cup to the skin and draws up the skin beneath the cup. It creats the flow of chi and blood and is highly recommended for muscle spasms. It can sometimes leave brusing. Please do not try this at home!

I have mix feelings about the wax and candle thing, but what I hate the most is that I have to leave the post office and find someone who sells them. Why cant you just buy wax and a candle from the post office itself.
