I have an L5/S1 herniated disc issue. Commenced 8th July 06. Have had 2 MRI's to confirm this. Have had 2 back injections that allevaited most of the pain issues.

Have had a variety of oestepath and conservative treatments. Current status is no real power in my right foot. Basically can perform single calf raises at speed on left foot of 40+ and lucky to get 14 very slow on right(this has been the same since about 8th August 06).

I am a 44 yod male and a hack triathlete who would like to able to run again. Swimming and cycling do not currently result in any significant loss of performance. Permanent nerve damage by not considering neurosurgery is my primary concern. Who do I see/what should I do?

TOK, what was the traumatic incident that occured? Obviously there is nerve compression coming from this bulge. You need to know that the nerve not only transmits pain but also sensation to skin and muscle control. The injections you had take away the pain, but the bulge still remains and is affecting the part controlling the muscles. This may improve over time but if you may want to consider getting a surgical OPINION if conservative care is unproductive. For this I recommend you consult a neurosurgeon. Best of luck.
