I usually play basketball in high cuts but for a couple of games about 6/7 months ago I tried out low cut shoes. During a game I attempted to drive left but my ankle rolled awkwardly and a felt a slight stabbing pain on the inside of my right foot in front of my ankle. The pain wasn't too severe and I was able to continue to play. Ever since then, especially after excrecise or games, I have had tenderness/soreness in the same region of my foot (not overly painful, just a lingering soreness). The pain is not bad enough to stop me from playing but it seems to impede my performance & I feel that it should have gone away by now. Not knowing much about ankles, I was wondering if anyone could give me info on what could be causing this soreness.

You probably had a minor sprain that has recovered but has led to some anterior impingement (excess scar tissue at the front of the ankle joint). The way to test this would be see if you range of motion (lunging your knee forward to touch the wall with you heel on the ground) is less for the ankle than on the other side.

If this is the problem, try anti-inflam gel, ice after games, stretches and maybe a cortisone injection. You could also ask for an X-ray to see whether any spurs have developed.
