RUGBY HEAVEN
Elton Flatley and Mat Rogers were included in the Wallabies squad today for the upcoming northern hemisphere rugby tour after overcoming serious injuries.
Queensland outside back Drew Mitchell and NSW forward Stephen Hoiles were the two debutantes in the Australian squad, while ACT Brumbies second rower Mark Chisholm was selected for his first senior tour.
But lock Nathan Sharpe was not considered for the four-Test tour of France and Britain to allow him to recover from a niggling shoulder injury.
"We've assembled a strong squad with some fresh new talent, some experienced players making their return from injury and those guys who have performed well already this season," said Australian coach Eddie Jones.
"Having players like Mat Rogers and Elton Flatley return to the squad is a real positive, while I'm sure both Drew and Stephen, who have shown more recently in club football that they are ready to step up, will now develop even further."
The 20-year-old Mitchell, fresh from a grand final appearance with University in Brisbane Premier Rugby, said it was a huge honour to be selected.
"Being part of the train-on squad was great, but to actually be selected is a real honour," he said.
"I know it's just another opportunity for me to learn and gain some more experience and I'm really looking forward to training and joining the guys full time."
Australian squad: Alastair Baxter, Brendan Cannon, Mark Chisholm, Matt Dunning, Elton Flatley, Mark Gerrard, Matt Giteau, George Gregan (c), Justin Harrison, Nic Henderson, Stephen Hoiles, Stephen Larkham, Chris Latham, David Lyons, Drew Mitchell, Stirling Mortlock, Jeremy Paul, Clyde Rathbone, John Roe, Mat Rogers, Wendell Sailor, Radike Samo, George Smith, Lote Tuqiri, Daniel Vickerman, Phil Waugh, Chris Whitaker, Bill Young.
