Hi Everyone,
I had 2 shoulder recons - one on left & 1 on right this year (Feb & May 2006) & I have had huge complications with my left (my right I can still sub lux but it doesn't ache as much now). I had cortisone injections on Friday 24/11/06 & it didn't start working till the Monday. I had relief & could get into the rehab till about 11/12/2006 when the pain started to come back. Has anybody else had this happen to them??

I had 2 cortisone injections - one under ultrasound into the top/side of the shoulder & the other done xray into the glenohumeral joint at the back of my shoulder. The Dr/radiographer that did it said I got the "wham bam thank you mam" dosage - 3 times what an average person gets.

I am now in alot of pain - actually worse than before I had the surgery on it. My OS doesn't want to see me till Feb (he's away all of Jan!) so I saw a Sports Physician a few weeks ago & he said for me to get an MRI (that he ordered) He said to get it done this week (so the fluid goes from the injections), so am booked in for tomorrow.

Is this normal for the injections to wear off so quickly?? My physio wants me to ask the OS to get the injections again?? The OS didn;t want me to get them in the first place, but the physio (who works very closely with him) convinved him as she said it wouldn't do me any harm - only spend $470 on something that only works for about 7-10 days!!

Any help, opinions, stories would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mary

Hi Mary,

Sometimes cortisone injections can wear off quite quickly. I've had a couple a they can wear off quite quickly.

It's not good to have cortisone injections too often. They say you shouldn't have more than 3 a year. So, your OS is probably right.

My right shoulder is really bad at the moment. So, on Monday I'm have a an injection under xray with cortisone and saline. There's a special name for it, but can't really remember. It's something like Hydro ----.

Good luck and let us know how you go.

Ive had two cortisone injections in my right shoulder.

The first one was terrible. Was extremely painful. I would rather of not had it. Lasted 7-10 days and then I got a rash as well heh heh, just my luck

Second one was much better. Helped with the pain for a couple of weeks then my shoulder went back to normal.

I had them both done through the rear of my shoulder.

I was supposed to get a third but chickened out.

Agree with above, No more then 3 per year....
