There's been an injury setback for ruckman Kurt Tippett, Adelaide's second round selection at last month's NAB AFL Draft.

The 19-year-old has injured his neck and will not take any part in the competitive aspects of the club's pre-season training program for at least 12 weeks.

The club reported on Friday that Tippett has an undisplaced fracture in a cervical vertebrae in his neck and must wear a neck brace for six weeks after being hurt in a collision at training on Wednesday morning.

Club doctor Andrew Potter told afc.com.au that Tippett was expected to make a full recovery.

"He should be able to return to competitive football by three months," Potter said.

"While he is wearing the brace he will be able to remain active on the bikes."

No surgery was required and there is no neurological damage.

Tippett, recruited from Southport on Queensland's Gold Coast, stands 200cm and weighs-in at 96kg. He came to Adelaide with selection 32 at last month's draft behind Adelaide's No.1 pick, Glenelg forward James Sellar.

His injury is a blow for the club which needs to make do in 2007 without senior ruckman Rhett Biglands who is in rehab from a knee reconstruction.
