Yesterday at me netball game I got an elbow to my throat. My neck is sore and stiff this morning and I can handy talk. When it happened I was taken off court and ice was appiled. but it is ready hard to talk and it hurts to do so! Do you think I should get to checked at the physio?

Yes, I think physio will help. They should give you treatment you need for it. Not sure of any but I'll have a look for some. Cheers,

Just a quick one. Not sure where you live but you can find a neck physio. First go to: http://www.mckenziemdt.org then select your country. If you are from australia then select your state and then you should find some neck physios. Good luck with your search. ;)

Thanks for that. I live in NZ. I went to my physio yesterday and I am going for a scan tomorrow. He didn't like the way I was talking and that it hurts to talk. My neck today is quite sore, but he doesn't think there is any bone damage, could be more soft tissue. Will keep you informed

Ok I can put up a few more details tonight as I am not so doped up on pain killers.
Went back to physio yesterday and the pain was getting worse and it was getting really hard to move and talk. The scan results showed that there was no bone damage or any major ligament damage. One ligament did have bleeding around it, but nothing to major and they think that it will heal itself. The voicebox should bleeding as well but no damage there either. That is why I am trouble talking. He said that again this will settle in time. The swelling is going down and the brusing is finally coming out. The physio said that is would be best if I laid off the talking for abit ha! Like that is going to happen. They did some utra sound and gave me painkillers and anti inflamations and I go back between christmas and new year. I am not allowed to sleep on my side, I have to sleep on my back and I am not allowed to do any sports. Oh it could drive me crasy!

Has your physio told you how long it will be before you will stop having pains in your neck? I occasionally do get neck pains. I also get knee pain because the knee-cap is loose from the rest of the knee. Anyway, Merry Christmas and all the best for 2007. Bye for now,

Well had my review on thursday and things are going slow. I still have alot of brusing, but the swelling is going down. I can talk now and have to have another scan just to make sure my voice box is ok. My neck is very stiff, but I have alot bit more movement. He thinks that it will take about five weeks for all the brusing to come and go and by then I should have more movement as well. I am aloud to do walking and hopefully next week I will be able to start jogging.

Well things are going really slow. I am back jogging, but have been put in a neck brace for the last couple of weeks, just restuct the movement in my neck to let it settle. At one stage I couldn't move my neck anyway with massive pain. Went back today and I have now been out of the brace for abput five days and I have better movement, but it is going to take some time. I hve netball starting again in about three weeks, so we hope to be right by then. I have another scan tomorrow just to make sure that the bleeding around the ligaments is settling down.
We'll keep you informed.

Well just a quick update. Things are good I am back playing netball for the last week. My neck movement was has improved and no stiffness, which sounds good, but there is still alittle problem with some times my neck just out of blue getting real sore, I went for another mri scan which showed that there is alot of inflammation around one the ligaments I injuried, so I am on inflammation pills to settle it. The physio is doing unti sound and massage to try and get rid of the inflammation and stop scaring, have another mri scan in three weeks

Hi I injured myself making a tackle and copped a elbow heavily in the throat, I have had trouble swollowing and can't talk much and very sore throat.
I applied a ice pack to my throat yesterday and only used Difflam lollies for the swelling inside, feels like i have mucus in my throat.
Woke up today felt a bit better but my voice is really hoarce and still saw. hurts swollowing but better applied ice again. Able to eat better today.
Went to the doctor who wants me to get a X-ray tomorrow and gave me Prednisolone for my inflammation taken once a day for 3 days. She wants me to get a spe******t to look at my vocal chords.
Does anyone know much on this type of injury and what i should do.

HI. Sorry to heard about your injury. Maybe you could try resting your voice as long as you can each day. That might help it recover better.
