Kristy,
I have Slipping Rib Syndrome. Have had it for 2.5 years now. It is not pleasant, and it is NOT common. It's very rare indeed, so rare that I could only find one Doctor here in the US that treats it. I've been getting "trigger point injections" every month which seems to help a bit. My injury was not sport related, but home related. I turned the corner carrying a laundry basket full of laundry, and the corner of the basket jammed into my lower rib cage. Ever since then, I have been in chronic pain. I'm on Vicodin, and time-released morphine. It helps, but the only cure, I'm sure is a ribectomy. OUCH! I have been to 4 separate hospitals trying to find someone who could diagnose my problem. I finally found a pain doctor, who knew what it was 2 minutes after she felt my ribs. I have been thru every test imaginable. I'm not sure if this info will help you.
Kristy,
I also suffer from slipping rib syndrome, was a very long road to getting diagnosed(1.5yrs),after having my gallbladder removed, multiple imaging tests,PT,several rounds of shots, the pain doctor came up with SRS. I finally traveled out of state and had surgery to remove the damaged cartlige and they trimmed part of my 10th rib that the doctor said was irregular, that was 6 months ago and I still have some pain. I now started seeing a new pain specialist that is very familiar w/SRS and he tells me that it could take me another 6 months due to the nerves in the area removed. Everyone has different results with the surgery and recovery times vary, Find you a Doctor that treats this and knows how to diagnose it. I will tell you they use the "Hooking Manuver" to try and reproduce the pain and if sucessfull they do a nerve block and then "Hook" you again and if you have no pain then you probably have slipping rib. I will tell you that this hasn't been a fun experience.

MAC and Karen,
I have had extreme pain from my 12th rib on the right side being "out" for 6 years. I have had 2 nerve blocks, and have been given NSAIDS for pain but nothing helps. I can't find a doctor that can help. Could you pass along names of Dr's that are familiar with slipped ribs? I have no problem traveling out of state. I am only 22 and I know I can't live with this for the rest of my life. I have fibromyalgia, and every Dr just blames it on that without fully examining me.
Thanks
-Nicole

Pain Pills Only Make Your Ligaments Weaker. I Am No Dr. Of Course But I Have Made Sure To Read EVERY Single Article That I Can Get My Hands On About Slipping Rib Syndrome. And I Know First Hand Of The Pain And I Have Had My Rib "Slip" 3 Times In The Last 2 Years Bringing Me Pain That Makes It Hard To Breathe... If Anyone Can Tell Me How They Treated This I Would Like To Know...I Am Tired Of People Thinking That I Am Faking S.R.S Just To Get Attention...I Feel A Sharp Pain In My Right Side On My 6th Or 7th Rib... :( And Many Drs. Say Its From Over Use Of Musles But Im Left Handed How Could I Over Use The Musles On My Right Side? Any Help On This Is Much Appreciated
Thank You So Much, Leah

Leah,
If you are still looking for information about Slipping rib syndrome, I will be glad to share the articles that I have received from my daughters doctors. She has been dealing with this for the last year and a half. We just found out what she had after MONTHS of doctors visits, medications and PT. She is only 13 and it has been very difficult for her.
Let me know if you would like this information. I have the studies scanned as PDF files that I can just e-mail you. I have been in touch with 3 of the authors and may be able to help you point you in the right direction.
I hope you are in the states, i just realize that this website is from Australia. Hopefully this can help you or others.
