This is by no means meant to be an exhaustive list, but a guide to some of the medical specialists who see exclusively or mainly foot and ankle problems in Sydney. In Sydney the level of sub-specialisation is greater than other states because of the greater population, but I would encourage anyone from other cities to post a guide to the names in their town. I don't expect a ranking system, just a helpful guide as to who is working in the area:

Surgeons:
Kim Slater + Tim Musgrove, 286 Pacific Hwy Crows Nest, 94375999
Peter Lam, The Mater Medical Centre, 99007522, plus St George Private
John Negrine, 160 Belmore Rd Randwick, 93995333
Martin Sullivan, St Vincent?s Clinic, 93326921
Les Grujic, 445 Victoria Ave Chatswood, 99046195
David Lunz, Prince of Wales Private Hospital, RANDWICK, 9650 4835

There are other physicians who see a lot of foot and ankle problems (e.g. Ken Crichton, ballet injuries; Jill McDonnell; John Orchard, Achilles tendon). There are also a multitude of podiatrists and surgical podiatrists in Sydney who can treat foot and ankle problems. Podiatrists often specialise in the manufacture of orthotics to control foot overpronation.

If anyone knows of others who are experts in foot and ankle injuries in Sydney, please add to the list (or start another thread if you know of others in a different state).

Updated phone details for Martin Sullivan:

st vincent's clinic 83826921 and north shore private foot & ankle clinic 94360073.

Doug Stewart (above) is part-time doctor and part-time journo, so he wouldn't the man to do an ankle operation, but might write an interesting article about ankle surgery in the Daily Telegraph one day.

To search for sports physicians in NSW, you can visit:

http://www.acsp.org.au/pages/publiclist.php?keyloc=NSW&submitButton=Find

To search for sports physiotherapists in NSW, you can visit:

https://apa.advsol.com.au/scriptcontent/fap_index.cfm?section=foryou

Neither of these have searches by areas of expertise, but both of them list areas of interest next to the practitioner.

Does it cost to get your name listed? How are you blokes going to make some Johnny Cash out of this?

Aim to give everyone a free listing to start but, like Google and Yellow Pages, to soon charge if you want to get a listing with bells & whistles that will get people to be more interested in clicking through.

Need to list everyone at first because if the directory isn't comprehensive then no one will use it. Whether it stops people wanting to pay, we'll find out.

Also plan to use a click through payment method rather than annual fee, so you only pay for results.

www.injuryupdate.com.au/clinics.php is the page you want

There will be a new format of this database released on Tuesday 13.6.06, to allow even easier searches and gain better exposure for the database and clinicians within it on google.

Cheers

I'd reccomend Kim Slater to anyone who would ask me for a foot and ankle surgeon in Sydney. I also go to the foot injury clinic near Westfield Bondi Junction.

He is not the only good ankle surgeon in Australia. Mark Blackney in Melbourne is very down to earth and a fantastic surgeon. He did a great job on my ankle and able to walk normally again. He has operated on a lot of the footballers as well.

You are better seeing an ankle specialist rather than a podiatric surgeon.

Sam Sorrenti is a great surgeon. He's located in the North Sydney practice with Merv Cross and a whole lot of other docs.

Dr Andrew Wines- 9415 3822.

I was in a terrible MVA and fractured my right calcaneus and two of my left metatarsals, which meant I was in a wheelchair for 3 months and crutches for 1 month. It has been a little over a year since the accident and I still hobble. But the surgery that Dr Wines did has meant that my way of life has changed only a little. He works with Peter Lam at Sydney Ortho
