A little over seven months ago, I injured my right ankle playing soccer with some friends. It wasn't a bad sprain, very mild swelling and I could walk on it the next day. When it happened my ankle didn't really rotate, it just wobbled back and forth, there was some cracking, but it didn't sound like my ankle broke. It healed pretty quickly, the only thing I noticed was that every once in awhile I would bend it a certain way, something would pop, and it would hurt extremely bad for a few moments, then feel better. About three months after that, it began to bother me again. Every time I woke up it would be very stiff, and if I did any intense running are jumping on it, it would be sore. Just recently it began sort of popping and hurting again, and today, every once and a while the back of my ankle, almost my heal, would hurt to the point where I couldn't walk, then it would feel better. All this while my ankle has been very unstable, but my parents refuse to take me to the doctor, because last time I went I had to have surgery on my left leg. I'm very concerned that the condition of my ankle is getting worse, and could cause long term damage if I do not see a doctor. If anyone anywhere can give me an idea of what might be wrong with my ankle, I might be able to convince my parents to take me!!! Please! I really want life to go back to normal!

I am experiencing the same problem. I too am a soccer/football player. Nothing shows up on the x-ray; yet I continue to experience pain ONLY when I kick the ball at a certain angle. The pain lasts for approx. 13 secs and fades away. However I have to rest for at least 2 weeks before I can play again.

After resting for 3 consecutive months, I was able to play again for 4 motnhs without a problem. Last week we played and my heel dug into the grass and that was it. The ankle is swollen and am back to square one.
Doctors are certian there isn't any cure for this and I should retire.

Unfortunatley I cannot retire becuase this is how I earn a buck.

good luck!
