View Full Version : Shoulder recon

If Brisbane Lions can't get Black ready in less than 6 months I think Mr Natural is up against it. Sounds like on open recon but it is not noted.

Should an injury surveillance be in place to document end of season surgical procedures?

Shoulder reconstruction for Black

Brisbane midfielder Simon Black faces an interrupted pre-season after undergoing a shoulder reconstruction.

It's expected that Black will face a six-month rehabilitation to be ready to play in mid-to-late April next year.

Black is not eligible to play until the round four encounter against Hawthorn anyway after being suspended for three matches on two charges arising from the grand final.

According to lions.com.au, Black had initially been booked in for surgery to have some floating bone removed from his ankle, but also underwent exploratory surgery on his shoulder. Surgeons then recommended a reconstruction which took place on Tuesday.

Brisbane team-mate Blake Caracella underwent similar ankle and shoulder surgery two weeks ago and is hoping to be available for the opening match of 2005.

Jonathan Brown is not expected to resume running for up to three months after surgery to repair cartilage in his right knee, while Michael Voss faces a month of rest after a clean-up on his right knee.

Ruckmen Beau McDonald and Jamie Charman are both progressing well from season-ending knee injuries, lions.com.au reports.
