It sounds like it the rotator cuff could be involved in it too if it hurts to lift your arm sideways. I would recommend that you go and see a sports doctor about it if it continues to bother you. For the time being you could try ice and some anti inflammatories like ibuprofen.
The other thing to consider is going to see a physio or acupuncturist to treat the injury. This might be a better start because the early you treat an acute injury the better it is to prevent scar tissue from building.

Hi there,
I agree with Ang. The best point of call would be to see a sports physician that specialises in shoulders. Whereabouts are you based ? I have two great sports physicians in Melbourne that deal with a lot of shoulder injuries as they are both involved with AFL clubs. A sports physician would be able to refer you on as necessary, ie. to a good shoulder physio.
When you are referred to a physio it's very important that they specialise in shoulders. My physio in Melbourne specialises in shoulders and has helped me a lot.
Good luck and let us know how you go.:)

Hello,
As suggested above it seems that you should probably get this checked out. You can read about shoulder injuries here (http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/shoulder_injuries.htm)which might give you some help regarding what you might have done, and also on what can be done regarding rehabilitation.
Good luck!
Ruth
