This is a good link describing the surgical options available for plantar fasciitis.

Obviously most (95%) cases of plantar fasciitis can be corrected with non-surgical treatment, but since the condition is so common, there are always going to be cases that need surgery.

Best non-surgical treatments are orthotics, night splints, stretches, cortisone injections and shock wave.

I have had the condition for approx 3 years starting with the left foot leading to the right foot. I am a nurse and am on my feet all the time. I also like to walk. I have seen a foot physio who tried ultrasound to my right foot. No help! I have since tried night splints with no luck not able to wear them without loosing sleep. Two lots of Cortisone injections the last one lasting 5 months. The latest recurrence of my foot pain my specialist has commenced my on Oral Cortisone and Oral Celebrex. We also ice and stretch. Wear orthotics all the time. It is starting to get me down. My work is suffering. Next option surgery. ??? how long need to recover from surgery thus time off work if i can work or walk again it is of great concern as i am only 42 years of age.

hi bowie! I just had the plantar fascia release surgery on June 30th. I have had foot problems for over 20 years, so it was time! Please email me and I will talk to you about it. If you rely on what you read online, it will scare you to death, because all you hear are the horror stories! LOL
My email is connie@cbpnet.net

Hi Bowie,
Well I went through 3 years of constant pain with Plantar Fascitis. I tried 2 injections of cortisone injections, Boots, phyisio and finally surgery. All with very little benefit. I was almost at the stage of pleading with the Dr amputate. I finally tried Extra-Corporeal Shock Wave Therapy and after 3-4 sessions the pain has completely gone. 2 years latter I am still pain free. I would highly recomend you investigate the treatment.

Dear Connie:

I am Jimgming.Zhu, 43 years old, live in Sydney. I suffered plantar fasciitis for more than one year. I can not walk at all because of pain. My main problem is the forefeet(sole, the front part for both feet) The area is swelling and redness. The illness make me so worried and cried many times. I am scared I will be disabled. My son is only 9 years old. I have seen many doctors, but result seems not very good. Would you please help me? Or give me some ideas.

I would like to have injection in that area because the results seems obvious for someone. But some doctors said that area has lots joints, better not to do it. May I know your opinion?
Currently I rest at home with 3 panadol a day and some chinese medicine. do some icing and stretching. After long period, will it be cured?
I saw on internet you had surgery in June 2006. How is the result? would you contact me?
