Hi All,

It seems I have managed to injure my right elbow in the gym. With the right arm extended, palm up, I have pain all around (and in) the bony joint on the inner side. It feels pretty localised to that spot - but there is some minor pain that seems to radiate up and down from the area if I lift anything above a few kgs.

I'm pretty sure this happened doing curls or chins though I don't recall any actual incident where it started (ie no snap or anything like that). This was about 3 weeks ago and I have not done any exercises which directly hit this area since then. It does not seem to be improving and may actually be getting worse.

Can anyone shed any light on what I may have done and recommend a course of action. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

Sounds like a bit of overuse in the muscles that attach to that painful spot (maybe golfers elbow?). Because it didn't give a ripping sensation or didn't happen suddenly, it doesn't sound like a ligament tear, or the pulling the boney bit off the elbow.

Its probably best to visit a local physio to get it treated, and get some exercises to slowly strengthen up and to stretch out the appropriate structures. Its also important to rule out more serious injuries.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks ALEE.

Yes, I have been to my local GP who is an ex-athlete so quite good on sports injuries and it has been diagnosed as "golfer's elbow". He has given me some stretches and exercises to get it working again and strengthen the forearm muscles. We worked out that it probably occurred because my left bicep is somewhat stronger than my right, and I was over using the right forearm muscles to try to compensate when doing exercises like curls.

It is starting to improve. Slowly!!
