View Full Version : Prevention of ACL injury

I know that the only sure way prevention of getting an ACL tear is not to play sports such as footy and tennis. But i love playing these sports, so i was wondering what methods (if there are any) to reduce the chance of getting an ACL injury. Would something like making the quads stronger reduce the risk of getting an ACL injury? My sister just had a ACL knee reconstruction last week, and i couldnt handle not being able to play sport for so long.

There are two areas where a lot of prevention work is being done. Firstly the landing/quads control area. The best advice is to try to land without hyperextending the knee (i.e. to flex the knee more on landing).

The other area of prevention is reducing shoe-surface traction, for example, using rye grass which is more slippery than couch or poa species.
