9 weeks ago I attempted to retreive a pen from the floor while sitting in an office chair(on wheels). I could not reach the pen and tried scooting closer to it. I pushed off the floor with my feet and instantly got a feeling in my back like never before. It felt as though I had been hit with a bat in the butt. I went to the ER , where they performed and xray of my back and all was "normal". I explained my symptoms to the DR. and he told me"If you were mt patient you would have an MRI. Because this was a work related injury, I was not his patient? I went to the work place health Dr. and he told me" I have never heard of anyone having pain in thier hips with a back injury." I thought this guy had to be nuts,my husband is 7 yrs with a back injury and one of his cheif complaints is sore or aching hips. I stayed witht he work place health Dr. for the 14 days I was required to ,by Workers Comp laws in Maine. I made an appt. to see my family physician and she ordered an MRI. The MRI reads like this :There is mild intervertabral disk space narrowing and loss of T2-weighted signal intensity at L5-S1 compatable with degenerative disk disease. There is also end plate ridging with a generalized disk bulge. There are facet joint arthritic changes which are moderate. This creates only a mild bilateral/lateral recess stenosis. At L4-5 there is soem minor facet joint arthritic changes but no superimposed HNP or stenosis. At L-4 there are similiar changes involving the facet joints but no appreciable stenosis. Note is made of several non specific lesions. one is small measuring only 7mm on sagittal T2 slice7of 12 and is dark on both T1and T2. If anyone could decifer this and let me know in laymen terms what it means , I would be appreciate it.Thanks

Note: There are 5 vetebrae in the lumbar spine called L1, L2, L3, L4, L5, L1 being the upper most.

There is mild intervertabral disk space narrowing and loss of T2-weighted signal intensity at L5-S1 compatable with degenerative disk disease. There is also end plate ridging with a generalized disk bulge.

The disc between the lumbar spine and the sacrum is bulging slightly, and has lost some height.

There are facet joint arthritic changes which are moderate. This creates only a mild bilateral/lateral recess stenosis.

There is some arthritis in the facet joints which is constricting the space where the nerve exits the spine, but only slightly.

At L4-5 there is soem minor facet joint arthritic changes but no superimposed HNP or stenosis. At L-4 there are similiar changes involving the facet joints but no appreciable stenosis. Note is made of several non specific lesions. one is small measuring only 7mm on sagittal T2 slice7of 12 and is dark on both T1and T2

Similar to the above, at the junction of the 2 lower lumbar spine vetebra (L4-L5), but no constricting of the space between L3-4 (I assume you left out the 3 in L-4 when you typed it out).

Hope this is layman enough.
