Hip Labral Exam

This is a delicate question for any ladies who have had hip labrum issues. My daughter is 3 months post-op after having her right ascetabular labrum repaired. She found her doctor's exams to be rather.....um....invasive at times (internal exam - if you know what I mean). Now we have been made aware that her doc has been charged by another female patient about my daughter's age, with sexual assault. So many parallels to this girl's story and they way this doctor dealt with my daughter. Does anyone have any experience with any of her exams being of the gynecological nature? We're trying to figure out if she is also a victim of abuse, or if this is common procedure for injuries of the hip. By the way, she is doing really well after surgery and physical therapy. Thanks for any input you might be able to give us.

ummmm...i think you have an issue here. my exams have NEVER been anything close to that. i always wear soccer shorts to the appts and my doctors have only lifted up the from the bottom of the shorts on the side to just see the incision sites. the most i have exposed is my underwear and that was the edge of it once... i saw another doctor a few weeks ago for a second opinion and again exposed very little that my shorts didn't allow. i am so sorry, this doesn't sound right at all. by the way, i had my left hip scoped at the end of march and a labral tear debrided along with a partial synovectomy....

Oh dear...I have had four docs and a surgeon look at my hip and nobody even went close to there. So sorry your daughter had to go through that, i would definately lay a complaint, especially since the guy has done this before!
So sorry again, hope your daughter is ok.

Also Hipmom, how old is your daughter? I'm sure there are rules about that sort of thing. If there was an 'internal' component to the exam,you should have been told and/or should have been asked to be in the room aswell.

Absolutely, if there is any exam that is internal pelvic, there must be an attendant present at the time! I cannot fathom what good a vaginal exam could possibly do to diagnose or check on labral tear progress. And.. if it did, how about male patients? How would one go about examing their labral tears internally? Rubbish and I would most definately report this one.

I just checked and it is a "professional courtesy" for a male MD to offer to the patient to have a nurse present. I was wrong that it is required... there is part of me (when I read things like this) that thinks it should be!

There is no reason why he should have looked and done a vaginal exam. Non whatsoever. I also was asked to change in shorts and it was left at that. Never got near me in that sense. If there was a reproductive problem of any kind he should have sent you to a Gyne physician. That isnt right.

Thanks to all for your input - Update is that this guy is facing more than one charge of assault and lewd and lacivious. All girls between 19 and 22, attractive, etc. Just glad we had a good surgical result. She is doing very well at this point.
