He has recently had time off from pre season training to recover from a minor back problem, but is this a sign of things to come? Will he be fit enough to last a season...the Knights will be praying he does.

He will last the season. The question is whether he will still be the best player in the world like he was two years ago. The smart money is that he won't be and combined with the loss of Kennedy and Tahu, the Newcastle Knights are 'gooooooorne'. Mind you they managed to squeeze out one ARL and one NRL Premiership during the Johns era so they have probably cashed in sufficiently.

Premierships are difficult to determine from paper, but it will definitely be an interesting season all round - there's a big chook missing from the henhouse, and that's ruffling some feathers in the pecking order I'm told... Perhaps the injury rate of Johns has assisted in prolonging his career, but his body certainly wouldn't have lasted had a code switch been formalised. He should last this one... but should this one be his last? 30 years old, 10 year career going on 11...

unlikely, especially if he sees the same surgeon again ;-)

Scans revealed a grade two glut tear (instead of the back related problem that was being thrown around). Racing the clock this fortnight to be fit for round 4.

My money is that he'll play round 4. Gluteal tear would be a breeze to carry compared to what he's been through. Fair bit of pressure to carry it as well, given he probably re-signed for mega-cash. Was definitely worth the mega-cash when he signed (like Kouta in the AFL), hope he is still worth it for the duration of his contract.
