View Full Version : Pec major Injury-Lump in axilla

I tore my Pec major about 10 months ago and because I am 47 the doctor did not suggest surgery. I did it bench pressing and although I now have about 75 % of strengh back I have developed a hard lump under my arm. I did probably get back into the gym a bit early and this may have affected the repair of the injury. I returned to the doctor and specialist and had an ultra-sound and they advised that the lump was nothing sinister and the specialist thinks it maybe the retracted muscle. It now is very painfull and seems to be affecting the nerves as I get pain throughout the shoulder and down my arm, plus it doesn`t look great!
Has anybody heard of this occurring and would an operation at this late stage be successfull?

Hi there,

I wouldn't let age get in the way of having an operation if it's going to help. Doesn't sound like you've had the best advice to date.

I would strongly recommend you go and see a good sports physician. They will be able to guide you on the best form of treatment. Whereabouts are you based ? I know some good sports physicians in Melbourne.

A lady posted on this website about a torn ACL and the first specialist didn't recommend surgery because of her age. Then, she went to see a good sports physician that referred her to a top knee surgeon and they advised there was no problem as long as they were prepared to do the rehab.
