View Full Version : Burning foot and loss of skin sensitivity
I suffered from a back injury 8yrs ago, L5/S1, and L3/L4 disc problems, gradually got better ,but the last few years gradually getting worse...I keep pretty fit with walking and swimming.
The last 6 months I have experienced a loss of skin sensitivity and a continual burning of the left foot and lateral side of the lower leg.
Nerve testing showed a reduction in the signals, but the neuro wants to try spinal cord stimulation with electrodes and an implant to control the signal.
I hope someone has a better idea or another neuro I might need to try.

Have you had surgery? It sounds like an L5 or S1 root problem from what you mentioned. My usual practice would be to get an MRI to define whether there is nerve compression (which can be very effectively treated with surgery) and a careful evaluation based on this and a clinical history and examination.
Good luck.

Hey could it be that you might a hip problem, try a remedial massage therapist with training in strutural alignment I have treated very similar problems with great success and it almost always have everything to do with the hips and nothing to do with the previous back injuries. In your case I feel that you may have weakened postural muscles in the lower back which has allowed your hips to fall to one side or rotate this can cause really bad pain and numbness in the legs commonly in the side of the hip affected which can be caused as the neurosurgeon above has mentioned but unless you really love operations try structural alignment most times this can fix or manage the problem just as well if not better that sugery without the risks! you can email me direct if you like and I can give you some excersises to try to help as well.

Sounds like a nerve root problem. Further scans are needed to see if surgery is warranted. Alternatively you can try more conservative treatment to try and alleviate it like Chiro, Physio, Osteo. Good Luck
