Tune surgery for tendonitis

Ben has had surgery for his patella tendon to combat tendonitis. Seems like an extreme option to take. What about strengthening exercises and aprotinin?

I think he had suffered from tendinopathy in both knees for years, so it was basically an attempted career-saving operation. It may have turned out to be a career-ending operation.

Not sure whether he would have used Aprotinin, as this is pretty uncommon therapy, but I'm sure the Wallabies and Reds would have tried lots of stuff out before moving to surgery.

It is a good reminder for anyone who asks for surgery for patellar tendinopathy - definitely not guaranteed to help. Perhaps in the end Ben may get back and he can say the surgery may have helped, but it has taken him 2 years.
