Hi all,
I am from victoria and suffered a fractured neck which resulted in a fusion of the C5 C6 and in a halo for 6 weeks and soft neck brace for another six weeks after that. I am now wanting to go back and play football again, against some doctors orders but other doctors are saying i can but at my own risk (to save themselves which is fair enough).

I am just wanting to hear about some peoples advice, and if they know anyone who is good to see. Also I want to maybe wear a neck guard like the ARL players, does anyone know if that is possible and if so, do you purchase them or get them especially made.

Thanks!!

Hi there,

Whereabouts are you based ? There are some good sports physicians at Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre that work with some top AFL clubs. I would be going to see one of them. Let me know if you want their details and will send you a private message with their details. At Collingwood they had to deal with a serious injury to one of their players, Blake Caracella and was advised not to play football again. It would be worth seeing one of their doctors. They both work at Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre.

I also work as a Sports Trainer for a VFL club in Melbourne. One of the things you would need to find out is whether you'd be covered by insurance if you returned to football and sustained another injury.

Hope this helps.
