Reports from Weight Watchers shows that Australians are lazier and heavier than the previous generation.

Around 7 million adult Australian's are considered overweight and 1 in 4 children. Not surprising considering all the fast food that we eat, Australia is growing more into America everyday. Who do you think is to blame? I know that for many individuals, no one is to blame, there is common diseases that simply puts them that way. But in other cases, parents rather lock up their children in front of the Television and allow them to eat junk food continuously.
Not sure if Weight Watchers is the way to go though, but this rate is alarming.

I don't trust weight watchers at all. my hubby did weight watchers and when i went to their first meeting with him to support him, I was told I needed to lose 20kg.
Let me just say that I am a 6ft tall female, size 14 and an athlete.
Alot of people have asked me WHERE in the heck is the 20kgs I supposedly need to lose?
WEIGHT WATCHERS ARE THE LOSERS:mad:

Weight watchers use the BMI to determine how much you should weigh. The BMI is a good general indication for the average person, however, it is not at all applicable to athletes. This is due to their high level of muscle making them weigh more even though they are evidently not overweight. I think that it is unfortunate that the person at weight watchers did not mention this to you and direct you towards body fat testing if you were concerned about weight.
I don't do weight watchers but I do think for some people it can be fantastic, and I doubt many people going to weight watchers are currently athletes...so hopefully they won't have the same experience as you
Australians are getting very overweight, but people have the same inactive lifestyle as the US now and the increasingly refined junk food as the US so it makes sense that the weight is also starting to become comparable. A real shame though.

I agree with KiraB. BMI is a general tool used for the general public. Body fat testing is also a good tool for atheltes but different sports require a different level of body fat in orde rto be considered efficient atheltes in their chosen sports.
If only the messages that weight watchers and other diet organisations tlod the public that output in Kj needs to be more than input in Kj to lose weight. It is an easy concept to understand for the average person and may be very effective.
