Can anyone give me informtion about the difference betwen Ostio-pubis and Pubic- instability and the reqiured treatment of the latter besides rest.

Is a operation called for for pubic-instability and what are the chances a player will gain a full recovery.

Pubic instability probably exists but the operations for it are horrendoplasties. I have seen pelvic X-rays with massive screws across the symphysis and apparently, surprise surprise, it gets rid of the movement but usually the patient is still in pain.

Muscle control is usually the way to best treat instability, and therefore there isn't a lot of point in making this diagnosis (as it is useful treatment for osteitis as well).

I have had symphysis seperation and adductor tears on both sides. This happened 10 weeks ago and I am still having a lot of pain,I was told that this could take 18 months to heal.should I consider surgery

Difficult question without being able to examine you etc. There are some good sports physicians in South Africa - I know the Cape Town ones the best (Martin Schwellnus, Tim Noakes) who could advise. If you are desperate to get back to sport then surgery could be considered at this stage, but most people would wait a little longer with non-surgical treatment for the groin.
