Hi guys, I am 22 years old and live in VA state in USA.
I was doing a calf raise exercise in GYM. I put weight on my shoulder and move my ankle up and down and that’s what the calf raise is.

Anyway I felt extreme pain while I was doing the calf raise.
I thought that it was just muscle soreness because I had it many times.
I have been weight training for more than 4 years by the way.

I have been taking a break for 1 month at home but I didn’t see any improvement.
I went to acupuncturist for 13 times but it still didn’t work.

After 2 months since the injury, I finally went to Chiropractor and took x-ray.
He told me that my symptom was “Spondylolisthesis”.
I looked up online and it says that depends on how serious the slip of the vertebrae it is graded between 1 to 4.
I am not quite sure how serious my symptom is but when I looked at the x-ray, I think it was between 10~30%. I assume it’s either grade 1 or 2. Maybe I will ask my Chiropractor next time I visit him. He told me that #4 slipped a little bit and #5 slipped even more but I still think it’s between 10~30% when I compared it to the other backbones.

Enough with my introduction.
Anyway I don’t have medical insurance and have to pay $50 each time I visit Chiropractor. I already spent over $400 for acupuncture and don’t know how much I have to spend more to chiropractor. I already visited chiropractor twice but all he does is using massage machine that I already have in my room and twisting my body to make cracking sound but that’s all and he receives $50. I don’t think it worth my $50.

He told me to stop lifting heavy weight that will make my vertebrae even worse. I still go to gym but I limit the weight that I lift and try machine instead of free weights for my safety. I also did a lot of research and narrowed down to the conclusion that strengthening my abs, back, hip, thigh, and leg can minimize the back pain.

I am doing my best to follow these exercises but don’t know if I want to spend 30 min at chiropractor’s office and spend $50. I read that some people chose to go meet physiotherapy instead of chiropractor. Do you think I should stop visiting chiropractor and go meet physiotherapy? What different method can physiotherapy use that chiropractor doesn’t? and does it worth your money or should I just keep on doing exercise that I was told from google search?

Why you went to an acupunturist is behond me.

If my memory's correct isnt spondylithesis where there is a break in the lamina of the lumbar vertebra and hence the disk comes forward.

However, if i were you i would definetly tell my chiropractor au revoir and go to a good physio instead. I would imagine that cracking your back isnt really helping it and is probably fairly risky.

I didn’t know if it was my muscle or the bone that has the problem so I went to acupuncturist first and then changed to chiropractor. But what can physiotherapy do that chiropractor could not? Aren’t they basically the same? It’s not like physiotherapy can use medicine or surgery. I think they will still give me the exact same advice such as strengthen my abs and back muscle and try not to lift weight.

If any of you actually visited physiotherapy, could you share your story such as what the physiotherapy told you to do or what he tried on your body..etc?

I want to know what different approach that physiotherapy can use because I don’t want to waste my money, time and ask my chiropractor to send x-ray to different doctor becuz I don’t trust him…etc

You are much better off going to a physio. For starters they don't crack your back. They will give some advice on preventative measures and ways to strengthen your back. A good physio would also be able to advise on the best sorts of exercise for your injury and ways to manage it.
