Jason Gram was a casualty from St Kilda's hotly-contested intra-club match at Moorabbin on Friday night, suffering a suspected cracked collarbone.

The 20-year-old former Brisbane Lion was sent to hospital for X-rays after coming off second best in a clash with a teammate during the third term of the scratch match.

A tall midfielder, Gram has battled persistent hamstring problems since his relocation from Queensland. He managed just two matches for the Saints in 2004, which took his career tally to four games.

"Early signs show that he might have a bit of a crack in his collarbone, so that's a very unfortunate by-product of football," Saints coach Grant Thomas said.

"He's had a bit of a stiff run, Grammy. His body hasn't been 100 per cent right through the pre-season, so maybe this will give him his chance to get his legs right as well. And if he's out for three or four weeks, well hopefully we can get him in tip-top shape."

Meanwhile, reigning Coleman Medallist Fraser Gehrig (back), Matt Maguire (groin), Troy Schwarze (hamstring) and Xavier Clarke (hip) will not be fit for next week's Wizard Home Loans Cup opener against Hawthorn. Thomas said they should be ready to play the following
