.....Identified by the talent scouts in his mid-teens, Bond sustained three stress fractures in his back before he was 18, almost left the game as a 21-year-old, and made three failed comeback attempts after breaking down again in May, 2003.
The reconstruction surgery in August was radical but inevitable. Bone chips were taken from Bond's hip and screwed into the fractured vertebrae, reinforcing the structure with titanium wire.
The procedure left him immobile for a month and unable even to pick up his young daughter Katie. But he was determined to remain patient and give his body every chance to mend and repair itself at its own pace.
Talk about commitment!
