Australian and Roosters three-quarter Shannon Hegarty has been forced to have surgery on an ankle injury sustained during the Kangaroo Tour. He has a syndesmosis sprain, similar to the injury suffered last season by Trent Barrett, which requires a screw to keep the tibia and fibula bones in the lower shin together. The injury will keep Hegarty out until April. Read more at rleague.com. In the AFL, Geelong's Steven Johnson has suffered a similar injury in an off-field incident which also required surgery.
