Was injured in an optional weights session. Limited info on the injury, however most likely to be an inguinal hernia. Must not have been to bad, and settled well, as there was no mention of surgery.

He is back for Monday's 20/20

The XXXX GOLD Queensland Bulls will have the services of captain Jimmy Maher for Monday’s New Year’s Eve KFC Twenty20 ‘Big Bash” match at Tony Ireland Stadium in Thuringowa.

Maher was today given the green light to make his return in the opening match of the “crash and dash” Twenty20 series after passing a fitness test overseen by physiotherapist Stephen Partridge, coach Terry Oliver and Chairman of Selectors Ray Phillips.

Maher had been in doubt after missing the Ford Ranger Cup loss to South Australia before Christmas with a hernia.

While the majority of Bulls players have either rested or had individual sessions, allrounder Shane Watson found a creative option for match practice today by playing in the annual Country Week Carnival at Marchant Park in Brisbane.

Watson is playing today as a bowler for the Australia Post Queensland Under-17 team that is competing at Country Week as part of its build-up to the national titles next week.

Just under 1500 general admission tickets remain for the match at the newly built Tony Ireland Stadium which has a ground capacity of approximately 10,000.

Rain in Townsville this week is expected to clear later today with the forecast for tomorrow and Monday being mostly fine.

Queensland and Victoria arrive tomorrow in Townsville. .

Victoria will train at Tony Ireland Stadium from 2.30pm to 4pm while the Bulls will train at the same venue from 4pm to 6pm. Both sessions are open to the public and tickets will be on sale from the ticket office during that period.

Adults are $10, children are $5 and a family ticket (2A, 2C) is $25. The match starts at 3pm.
