View Full Version : Prolapsed Discs - Needing Advice...
Hi all. I have 2 proplapsed discs in my neck caused from lifting weights. These both occured a couple of years ago now. I have been and done the physio thing and the hot, cold compresses, rest and painkillers which is all great for the immediate pain - but how do you get over this???? Every time I lift weights now - back comes the pain - which can put me out of action for over a week at a time - and it is driving me crazy! Does anyone know how this problem can be fixed for good so I don't keep having reaccuring pain EVERY time I lift a weight? I am sick to death of my family telling me that I will never be able to do weights again and that I should just concentrate on cardio! Any advice or knowledge anyone has on this would be so much appreciated as I am at my absolute wits end. The pain is excrutiating and very dibilitating and when I try to push through it - I just seem to make it worse. (I thought that endorphins were meant to help with pain relief!?) Thank you in advance for your imput.

I'd say you could try strengthening your neck.
I've had a lot of success doing a group training with a physio. She does a lot of work to strengthen my neck. I'm in the same boat as you. I get excruciating pain from problems in C5/C6 C6/C7.
Thank you for your reply plucs! I am starting back at physio now (yet again!) my C4/5 and C6/7 are both prolapsed - they tell me the reason the pain came back was from doing barbell squats (I know....I should have known better...!) Apparently I can no longer do any type of exercise that requires me to place a barbell on my neck as the barbell sits exactly on my C6/7 disc! Hence the pain! I am also forbidden to do any over head lifting - after some strengthening exercises I MAY be able to do it again some day - but will have to wait and see. I hate having limitations put on my training - but unless I want to keep injuring myself I will have to do as I'm told!

I think you need to see a doctor to help manage your pain levels. A good sports physician should be able to help with this as well as advice on your best treatment options.
Good luck !!
