Hi...as far as I'm aware, I haven't knowingly injured my wrist/hand but have been suffering some strange symptoms for the past few weeks (perhaps months).

Every morning when I wake up, my left wrist is very tender when used in a rotating motion, particularly the side below the little finger. I have a habit of placing the hand in a cocked postion under my chin while sleeping and have been making an effort to avoid this during the night by burying it under the pillow in the hope it would remain flat.

During the day, an example where it causes problem is when driving a car. If the left hand is in a position low on the steering wheel (eg 7 or 8 o'clock) and I need to turn left, I used to be able to turn the wheel in such a manner that my left hand would end up at 4 or 5 o'clock without taking it off the steering wheel. Now, it hurts too much.

While trying to investigate possible causes on the Internet, I stumbled across "Carpal Tunnel", however, this appears to effect the opposite side of the hand, starting at the thumb. I'm also right-handed at most things so an RSI induced injury is unlikely.

What may or may not be of significance is the fact that I complained to the Wife a couple of months ago that every morning I had trouble putting on my Wedding ring as the finger seemed swollen. I used to shove it on my little finger and then transfer it to the ring finger on the way to work as the swelling went down.

As per the current wrist pain, this appeared to mainly be a problem in the mornings.
Today, I began to feel a bit of tenderness from the wrist towards the forearm.

Any ideas ?

Unfortunately the wrist is so complex. So many things could be happening. I have been thinking about starting up a thread on what I went thru with my wrist injury. It started off as a simple fracture which ended up being a lot more severe with the years. I am currently 23 years old, the injury occurred back in 98.

From my experience I have found that night time is also a time when I have woken up in the past due to pain. Getting a custom splint, brace is only possible if you are working with a surgeon whom will order it for you. Until then, sports tape as well as the heavier duty over the counter stores will carry standard ones.

Splint it up and stay on anti-inflammatories. If your discomfort if significant that it impacts your day to day living, go see your family physician to see what he can do for you.

Good Luck.

Yep, the Wife bought me a thermoskin bandage which I've started using at night (if nothing else, it acts as a "reminder" when I get my wrist into an awkward position). Going to use it for a few weeks and see what eventuates.
